McGinnis Tree Service

We hired McGinnis Tree Service of Delmar, DE. We watched him & his crew including grandson (I believe) working across the street. They have chopped down about more than 15 trees for our neighbor. I asked his wife to have him come over to chat with us about our trees & have those trees trim. He agreed that our trees need to be trim because they're too heavy & unhealthy. So weeks have gone by & we haven't heard from him til I called him & he said he will come by today. He & his crew came this morning. They did the first tree by the driveway & went from front tree to backyard trees then last tree in front by our bedroom windows. The crew are very nice guys & Robert is nicest man.

This is our middle tree in the backyard (before):

This is our end tree behind girls' window (before):

You can see all 3 trees in a row. They're working on the biggest & heaviest tree of all 5 trees. I keep objecting to the owner that (on your left) lone branch look funny by itself. He explained to me that on the other side there is smaller branch (on your right ~ not good view of that branch) is level with that lone branch. Sallie & I have been discussing with him on what to do with the front branch & lone branch. Sallie want to keep them. I want them down. We are stuck & we told him let's wait til Mike gets home. Mike check those branches out & he asked me to talk to the owner more about it. We found out that it will cost us $120 more to get both down. Mike went back in the house to talk to Sallie about $120 more. The owner pointed out that I should save the money for other tree which will died in maybe 2 yrs.

You can see the guy is cutting down the branches from the truck. That's the biggest tree we've got here.

After trimming the biggest tree, they take a lunch break (sorry for the pic ~ it was taken with my cellphone thru laundry room window). Look at one guy swinging on girls' swing. They giggled at him. Sarah said he's too big. LOL McGinnis wife stopped by for lunch break. It is kind of nice that they sit around in our backyard chairs & chat during lunchbreak.

Here's our backyard trees (before look):

Now here are the after pics:

Our 3 trees in the backyard:

In this pic, you can see the lone branch (nearest the ground on your left) & other side branch split (nearest the ground on your right). Click on the pic to open up the pic bigger & you will see what I'm talking about. That's the one I object & thought they should remove it. But we decided not to after all. He gave me a gentle pat on my shoulder & said you will get use to it. LOL

This one was the biggest & heaviest tree. Now it look so much better & lighter.

This is our middle tree:

We received bad news about this tree (this one is behind girls' bedroom windows). McGinnis told me that this tree will died in 2 yrs given or taken. The tree are eaten up by carpenter ants. It's really bad. They had to cut down a lot of branches because ants ruin most of them. He said that they have eaten up most of branches, trunks & leaves above. Now they're eating up inside the trunk (body of tree) & he believe that they're gonna eat all the way down to the roots in the ground. The tree is gonna fall over in couple of years by strong storm once the roots are weaken. He said that once the carpenter ants are done with this tree & they will move on to the middle tree. It was surprise news because we thought biggest & heaviest tree is worse tree of all but he said no. this tree is the worse. It's not gonna live. Ants have done so much damage to it. Sallie was unhappy about that & knew she & Mike will have to take that one down in couple of years.

Sweetest story happened at the end of day around 5pm. The crew found newborn squirrel in the backyard. It was like few days to a week old. McGinnis' grandson was holding it. I was dumb not to take the pic of it. After the crew cleaned up the yard, McGinnis drove his truck to the middle tree & went up in the tree to look for newborn squirrels & he found them (2 of them). He went back down to get the newborn squirrel & went back to put him/her back with his/her family before Momma squirrel missing him.

McGinnis said that our cement porch right in front of biggest & heaviest tree is full of ants that bites. He warned the girls that they should wear shoes because we got nasty ants around that area. So he told us to get pesticide for those trees.
My closing: Here's Sophie ~ enjoy her day at the library for storytime. She love it.
